This is a meeting of the English department. I was asked to give a talk on how to teach English.
Like many schools in Cambodia, English is given high priority.
Some subjects are taught in English. This is a statistics class.
In this meeting the students were asked to discuss:
1. Environmental issues and concerns in their own rural communities
2. How they imagine their group can contribute
Angkor University is online, and Piseth is the computer expert and IT instructor.
After the student meeting, we went to Kampong Kleang, as recommended by the Fisheries Department. Piseth (left) is from the same village. Neoum is studying IT.
Kampong kleang is a large village on Tonle Sap lake.
It was recommended partly because the fisheries
Department is concerned about the destruction of the flooded forest, and that there are few NGOs working there.
As presented to me on the last day.
The studentswanted to name it "Nagao Angkor Discovery, but we asked them to think again! Proposed main activities:
1. First visit communities to learn more about issues relevant to the community
2. Work with other NGOs and agencies to gain experience and provide help
3. Apply that experience to their target communities
A bank account was opened at the Cambodian Public Bank with an initial balance of US $480.
Two students (Pov and Piseth) and Dr. Linne Yun are signatories to the account
